Privacy Policy

This is a translation for convenience. If it differs from the Traditional Chinese version, the Traditional Chinese version prevails.

SnapshotBooks (snapshotbooks.compoundwater.app, the “Service”) is operated by CompoundWater. This policy explains what data we collect, why, where it is stored, and how you can delete it.

The short version: if you don’t sign in, we keep no personal data at all, and every book is free to read. Signing in exists only so your Favorites can sync across devices. We don’t sell data, run ads, or track you across sites.

1. What we collect

DataWhenWhy
Your Google or Apple account display name, email address and profile photo URL (photo from Google only; Apple provides none) When you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, as supplied by that provider To identify your account and show your avatar at the top right
Your Favorites list (book IDs and their order) When you tap the favorite star or drag to reorder So the same list follows you across devices
Anonymous traffic statistics (page views, load performance) Whenever anyone visits the site To see what gets read and whether the site runs smoothly
Browser local storage (localStorage) For example when you dismiss the “Add to Home Screen” prompt To remember your preference; it stays only in your own browser

We do not collect your password — sign-in is handled entirely by Google or Apple, and the Service never sees your Google or Apple password. If you choose “Hide My Email” with Apple, we receive Apple’s relay address rather than your real email. We also don’t collect your birthday, phone number, address or any payment information. Voluntary tips inside the app are processed by the Apple App Store; we never receive or store your card or payment details.

2. Where your data is stored

These providers act as our data processors, and their own privacy policies also apply: Firebase, Vercel.

3. Who can see your data

Your Favorites list is visible only to you. The database enforces access rules (Security Rules) that let each user read and write only their own data; other users cannot read yours even if they know your account.

We don’t sell, rent or trade your data to third parties. We may disclose it only where required by law or by a competent authority, to protect the rights of the Service and other users, or with your separate explicit consent.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The Service uses no advertising or tracking cookies. After you sign in (with Google or Apple), Firebase stores the credentials needed to keep you signed in (in localStorage / IndexedDB); signing out clears them.

5. Retention

Account and Favorites data is kept until you delete your account. Anonymous traffic statistics are kept according to the provider’s policy and cannot be linked to any individual.

6. How to delete your data

To remove a single favorite, just tap ✕ in your Favorites list — no request needed.

Option 1: delete it yourself (fastest, takes effect immediately)
After signing in, tap your avatar at the top right → “Delete Account”, and type “DELETE” as prompted. You will be asked to re-verify with the same provider you signed in with (Google or Apple) to confirm it’s you, and then your account and associated data are deleted immediately — no review or reply to wait for.

Option 2: request by email
If you can’t do it yourself (for example, you can no longer sign in), email contact@compoundwater.app from the email address of the Google or Apple account you registered with, with the subject “Account deletion request”. We will complete the deletion and reply within 14 business days of receiving your request.

Deletion covers your account data (display name, email, avatar URL) and your Favorites list. Anonymous statistics are excluded because they never recorded your identity and can’t — and needn’t — be tied to you.

7. Your rights

Under Taiwan’s Personal Data Protection Act, you have the right to inquire about, review, supplement or correct your personal data, and to request that we stop collecting, processing or using it, or delete it. To exercise these rights, email contact@compoundwater.app.

8. Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal data. If you are a parent or guardian and find that your child has provided personal data without consent, please email us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will post a prominent notice on the site.

10. Contact

For any privacy question, contact us at contact@compoundwater.app.
